Mesh network testing provides clarify for IoT connectivity options
The large-scale multicast testing of the mesh protocols was carried out at Silicon Labs’ Boston design centre. All tests used the company’s Wireless Gecko SoC platform to negate the effects of the testing by the different chip performance. The benchmark results will allow developers to more accurately define the behaviour of mesh protocols in the 2.4 GHz frequency band. As each protocol has different features and benefits in individual use cases, the testing will provide information on the expected performance concerning battery life, throughput, latency and how the network will perform as it scales up.
The results of the testing have been released as application notes that define the testing methodology to allow the testing to be easily replicated. The application notes will also give a guide to best practices and principles, and provide expected field results.
