Leading manufacturers are implementing MHL technology in consumer products such as tablets, mobile phones and automotive audiovisual accessories, which requires them to pay close attention to device interoperability. The MHL 3 specification, published in August 2013, offers a significant increase in bandwidth (up to 6 Gbps) to support higher resolution and a new bidirectional high-speed communication path between the portable device and a display.

The N6460B transmitter compliance system builds on its MHL 2 transmitter compliance test software that is also currently used worldwide in MHL authorized test centers. The latest software offers test capabilities now required for MHL 3 transmitters, such as a dedicated TMDS lane and new functionality in the CBus, referred to now as eCBus, that includes forward and reverse transmission validation.

“Consumers want to be confident that the MHL products they purchase will deliver the performance and interoperability they desire, ensuring that devices work together effortlessly,” said Solomon Langley, general manager, Simplay Labs. “Keysight’s development engineers have worked on the N6460B compliance software with our validation teams on measurement algorithms to optimize accuracy and usability.”

The software feature set includes MHL 1, MHL 2 and MHL 3 test suites. Cable model and equalizer setup provides complete control in what-if analysis as well as standard compliance testing.

The software offers a user-defined mask setup to suit individual company goals as well as standard masks required in compliance testing; DUT automation control for MHL 3 unattended testing using Simplay Labs test accessories; and saved waveform analysis to import waveforms for remote support or offline analysis.

The N6460B transmitter compliance software also provides user comments for in-depth details in test reports and calibration test suites for MHL TMDS receiver test as well as source device eCBus receiver testing

Full MHL 3 link analysis requires the company’s receiver cable compliance testing solutions, including E4887A TMDS signal generators, the M8190A arbitrary waveform generator and N5990A factory automation software. The receiver compliance system is complemented by products from BitifEye. BitifEye products include test fixture and an MHL upgrade of BitifEye’s frame generator software.
