Privately-held EqcoLogic was founded in June 2005 as a spin-out of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). The company has developed a cable equalizer for long-haul Firewire (IEEE1394b) and has developed transceivers that send signals bi-directionally over a single coaxial cable. The company has also been instrumental in the development of the CoaXPress standard.
The amount of money Microchip is paying for EqcoLogic was not disclosed but the terms of the deal are not expected to have any material impact on Microchip’s December quarter results.
Microchip said EqcoLogic’s technology is well suited to high-speed automotive and industrial networks such as MOST and Ethernet.
"We believe EqcoLogic’s solutions are well positioned to capitalize on a number of embedded markets, especially for automotive and industrial customers," said Peter Helfet, EqcoLogic’s CEO, in a statement issued by Microchip.
