Micron appoints former TSMC chair Mark Liu to its board
Memory chip maker Micron Technology Inc. (Boise, Idaho) has appointed experienced business leaders Mark Liu and Christie Simons to its board of directors.
Liu began his career with Intel as a processor designer before moving to research at AT&T Bell Labs and then on to become a career executive at foundry TSMC. Liu spent 30 years at TSMC rising to the position of co-CEO from 2013 to 2018 and then serving as executive chairman between until his retirement in 2024.
Liu’s appointment is expected to bolster Micron’s position as it engages with TSMC and its AI-oriented customers to provide them with memory chips.
Under his leadership, TSMC became the world’s foremost chip manufacturer and largest semiconductor foundry. Currently he is the founder and chairman of the J&M Copper Beech Ventures investment fund.
“Mark is a visionary leader with deep technical expertise and business acumen,” said Sanjay Mehrotra, Micron’s CEO, in a statement. “His experience will help guide Micron as we scale our business to address the growing opportunities unleashed by AI – from the data center to the edge,” he added.
Simons is a senior audit and assurance partner at Deloitte & Touche LLP from where she is scheduled to retire in May. Simons recently led Deloitte’s Global Semiconductor Center of Excellence, integrating the organization’s multifaceted capabilities to serve global semiconductor clients across consulting, advisory, tax, and assurance.
