Micron has started shipping a 232-layer quad-level cell NAND flash memory within the Micron 2500 solid-state disk drive and some under its Crucial brand.
Micron claims the memory is the densest NAND in production. The capacity would normally be one-third more than that of the 232-layer triple-level cell memory which is rated at up to 1Tbit.
Although Micron does not explicitly state the memory capacity of the latest memory component it doe state the memory density is 30 percent higher than the previous generation 176-layer QLC NAND. It supports up to 2400 million transfers per second, a 50 percent improvement over the prior generation, Micron states.
The Micron 2500 SSD comes in 512Gbyte, 1Tbyte and 2Tbyte memory capacities, which might be based on 4, 8 and 16 memory die.
