Miniature tantalum polymer capacitors for consumer applications
AVX’s “Frameless” tantalum polymer SMD capacitors use technology characterised by a lead-frame-less and facedown structure, precise dimensions, and low-stress packaging: the F38 Series surface-mount capacitors provide high capacitance in miniature M and S cases for high volumetric efficiency. Featuring conductive polymer cathodes, which can handle high ripple currents, F38 Series capacitors also exhibit low ESR, low ESL, and low, flat impedance over a wide frequency range, and are ideal for use in a broad range of consumer applications.
“Impervious to capacitance variations resulting from fluctuations in temperature or voltage, the F38 Series tantalum polymer capacitors provide design engineers with a high-reliability alternative to the noise-emitting MLCCs in mobile phone and other handheld consumer device applications,” says Allen Mayar, Marketing Manager at AVX.
Rated for use from -55ºC to +105ºC, the tantalum polymer capacitors are RoHS-compliant, halogen free, and available in two case sizes: M (1.6 x 0.85 x 0.8mm) and S (2.0 x 1.25 x 0.8mm). Currently, M-case F38 Series capacitors are available rated for 10V and 2.2 µF or 10V and 4.7 µF; however, the following ratings are in development and slated for introduction later this year: 6.3V and 22 µF, 6.3V and 47 µF, and 10V and 10 µF. S-case F38 Series capacitors are currently available rated for 6.3V and 47 µF. Two additional S-case ratings, 4V and 100 µF and 10V and 22 µF, are also in development and slated for introduction later this year.
