Mixer reduces distortion, cuts power by up to 30%
This low-distortion, low-power RF mixer, the F1178, improves IP3O by up to 8 dB and reduces power consumption by a claimed up to 30% vs. competing mixers. A member of IDT’s “Zero-Distortion” family of dual mixers, the IDT F1178 is a high-performance RF to IF mixer designed to operate with a single 5V supply. The mixer is optimised for operation in receivers with RF bands from 3300 – 3800 MHz and is suited to use in base station radio cards, repeaters, distributed antenna systems and microwave backhaul equipment.
Very low power consumption eases heat-sinking requirements on radio cards, and ultra-high IP3 allows for high-gain frontends. The F1178 delivers fast settling from power up with constant LO impedance, allowing users to power the mixer down between TDD Rx slots, further reducing power consumption. IDT says that this addition to its dual mixers will assist with deployment in the 3.5 GHz band; with its extremely low IM3 distortion, the F1178 can significantly improve radio card performance; the company adds, “With the F1178 dual mixer, designers can improve signal-to-noise ratio by running their system with higher RF gain while maintaining excellent IM3 distortion, just like they do at the lower frequency bands with our mixers.”
