Molex Incorporated has expanded its HSAutoLink Interconnect System with the introduction of HSAutoLink high-speed in-vehicle data bus assemblies that deliver robust connectivity to commercial automotive and other transportation sectors.

Delivering on the automotive industry’s need for optimum EMI and EMC performance, the system fits space-constrained vehicle packaging requirements while maintaining high-speed link performance to meet emerging demand in the ‘connected vehicle’ segment, which includes vehicle-to-vehicle communications, infotainment, telematic devices, safety cameras and other in-vehicle applications.

According to Mike Gardner, Molex global marketing manager for infotainment and in-vehicle networks, today new vehicles in average contain more than twice as many electrical circuits as models produced a decade ago. The HSAutoLink Interconnect System is designed to meet increasing demand for electrical distribution systems needed to interconnect advanced navigation, safety, comfort and infotainment systems.

Engineered for longer product life, the HSAutoLink portfolio blends proprietary shielding and volume assembly manufacturing processes leveraged with breakthrough technologies from other markets Molex serves. The HSAutoLink connectors and cables are configured to deliver Universal Serial Bus (USB 2.0), Low Voltage Differential Signaling (LVDS), Ethernet and other emerging in-vehicle network technologies, bringing the latest industry solutions to life for vehicle communications and entertainment systems. The HSAutoLink packaged assembly deploys an economical five-pin shielded connector system from the consumer market that has been ruggedised to meet car makers’ mechanical requirements.

With today’s newly introduced expanded cable exit offerings, the HSAutoLink family now offers improved design flexibility to fit space-constrained vehicle packaging requirements. The angled exits or short profile, right angle exit (RAE) allow the assembled cable to exit the device at various angles, providing alternative routing options in confined areas. The RAE version features an extremely compact connector footprint, allowing cable connections in areas with obstructions directly behind the interface.

The HSAutoLink line complies with the automotive industry-standard USCAR-30 compliant interface supporting USB 2.0 requirements for OEM system certification. Full-length cable shielding provides superior signal performance and reduced EMI. The USB Standard A receptacles feature shrouded and positive bezel-latching capabilities to provide in-vehicle mounting for passengers’ easy access to connect to media devices such as MP3 players, flash drives and portable navigation systems.
