Ossia is a wireless-power start-up based in Bellevue, Washington state. The company declares itself to be,” challenging people’s core assumptions about what is possible with wireless power”. Ossia’s flagship product, Cota, is promoted as delivering remote, targeted energy to devices as far away as 10m depending on the charger model. Built on Ossia’s patented smart antenna technology, Cota automatically keeps multiple devices charged without any user intervention: the intention being to enable an efficient and truly wire-free, powered-up world, that is always on and always connected.

Molex’ announcement is of a strategic investment in Ossia, to help expand market access to the Cota technology by facilitating development of new products for consumers and businesses. Cota’s wireless power technology provides charging, not only without wired connection, but also without placing devices on a charging pad. Cota’s Real Wireless Power Platform includes a compact tabletop transmitter/charger, mobile phone and IoT receivers (receiver board, pictured) as well as a battery that can be wirelessly charged from a distance.

Molex says it continues to be committed to support the development of innovative, high-performance solutions that directly address global industry demand. “Ossia’s Cota wireless power technology is the first true game changer in the field of long distance wireless power,” said Lily Yeung, director of corporate development, Molex. “Our global design, engineering, manufacturing and services as well as deep expertise in power solutions will help Ossia achieve long-term success.”

Molex ads that it recognises that industry focus in the future will be on wireless technologies; where all device users can receive power unencumbered by cords, much as they receive data wirelessly today.
