Rohm Semiconductor ultra compact MOSFETs and bipolar transistors in the VML0806 case type measure 0.8mm × 0.6mm with a height of only 0.36mm. Until recently, problems related to internal element miniaturisation, bonding stability, package process accuracy, and surface mount technology limited the smallest conventional transistors to the 1006 size (1.0 × 0.6 mm, t=0.37 mm).

Rohm was able to overcome these challenges by using a smaller element and high-precision package process technology, resulting in a compact form factor. At announcement in late 2012, Rohm initially offered small-signal transistors in the package; Mouser is now stoking four devices, the small-signal PNP and NPNs, plus MOSFETs that offer on-resistance down to 2.6 Ohms.
