LoRaWAN was developed to be a low-power, wide-area (LPWA) network protocol that is able to provide internet connectivity to battery-operated devices that is available in regional, national, and global networks. The protocol offers a high level of performance and supports IoT requirements including end-to-end security, bi-directional communication, mobility, and localisation services. Mouser’s new resource site provides a wide range of pertinent information on the LoRaWAN technology itself, as well as strategies, and devices. It is intended to offer a single area that will provide advice and insights to engineers working on IoT applications.

The LoRa Alliance has developed standardisation for the technology along with an accredited certification scheme to deliver the interoperability that is required for LPWA networks to scale. This scalability has given LoRaWAN the potential to be the premier solution for global LPWAN deployments. Mouser has partnered with LoRa Alliance to deliver and promote this new standard in networking solutions.

The LoRaWAN specification offers the low-power and security capabilities to ensure a broad range of applications are covered. Mouser’s new LoRaWAN resource site features technical articles, videos, product descriptions, and instructional flipbooks that are intended to provide the information needed to leverage LoRaWAN connectivity in agriculture, smart cities, sensors, autonomous vehicles, and other applications.

LoRaWAN network architecture is deployed in a star-of-stars topology where the gateways relay messages between end-devices and a central network server. The gateways are connected to the network server through standard IP connections and act as a transparent bridge, simply converting RF packets to IP packets and vice versa. The wireless communication takes advantage of the Long Range characteristics of the LoRaÒ physical layer, allowing a single-hop link between the end-device and one or many gateways. All modes are capable of bi-directional communication, and there is support for multicast addressing groups.
