With support for either four (Type 1708A1) or eight (Type 1710A1) single-wire piezoelectric cavity mold pressure sensors, the Types 1708A1 and 1710A1 feature an integral electronic chip embedded onto a printed circuit board that allows for current mold information, such as sensor location and sensitivity, to be collected and stored directly onto the chip. When connected to the Kistler Como Injection process monitoring system, stored data is immediately available for upload into the system. The resultant sensor and mold identification data, including location and sensitivity, is thus immediately available within the system for ease of mold startup. Additionally, the chip identifies whether pressure sensor cabling is properly installed for greater troubleshooting and reduced potential for associated downtime.

Operating at up to +125°C, these multichannel connectors also feature the company’s own proprietary “cut and grip” technique for single-wire technology connection, allowing for the easy shortening of an individual cable to its required length. These Kistler single-wire cables transmit the necessary electrical charge for effective mold cavity sensing, with required shielding provided by the injection mold itself, with both cables and connectors completely integrated into the mold. Single-wire cabling is also fully field-repairable and exchangeable and may be cut to desired lengths. Cables can be fitted directly into mold cavity bores to minimize milling, protecting the bores from potential mechanical damage.

The effective onboard memory storage and troubleshooting capabilities of Kistler Types 1708A1 and 1710A1, as well as their capability to simultaneously support multiple measurement channels, make these multichannel connectors suitable for improving process efficiencies within electronic component, optical lens, liquid silicone rubber (LSR), medical component, and metal injection molding applications.
