Multi-channel switch helps save fuel
As a result of increasingly stringent CO 2 regulations, vehicle manufacturers are striving for greater efficiency in combustion engines. Infineon Technologies launches a multi-channel low-side circuit breaker that contributes to reduced fuel consumption and thus lower CO2 emissions. The TLE9104SH belongs to the FLEX product family and is the first intelligent four-channel low-side switch for currents up to 5A in 12V applications. They can be used, for example, to control high-precision fuel injection nozzles, high-pressure valves or high-current relays for engine control, transmission control and battery management.
Among comparable products on the market, the TLE9104SH sets standards in current, power and package dimensions. The R DS(on) is 300mΩ at 150°C. The switch comes in a new cost-optimized and space-saving DSO-20 package (PG-DSO-20-88) with an area of around 80mm².
A serial peripheral interface (SPI) for 16 bits is available for control and diagnostics. All channels are protected against overcurrent and overtemperature and have an active damping circuit for controlling large inductive loads. The load status can be detected via the serial peripheral interface and the following faults can be detected: short-circuit to ground, interruption of the load and short-circuit to the battery. Four input contacts allow direct control of the switches.
Safety functions include an additional contact for activating the output stages, a watchdog for the serial peripheral interface and status information for the output stages via the serial peripheral interface. This makes the product well suited for safety-critical applications in motor vehicles and industry.
To support development, Infineon offers an Arduino developer board with the TLE9104SH that can be used in two evaluation setups: either in combination with the XMC1100 Boot Kit (Version S) or in combination with the Aurix TC277 test board with an additional multi-channel connection board (Version L).
