This high degree of flexibility lets the user optimize speech and FEC rates to provide excellent voice quality with superior robustness to bit errors and acoustic background noise.

The IC offers several new features including an interface for low-cost digital mic, typical low-power operation: encoder 28mW, decoder 18 mW, sleep under 15µW. Other features include push-to-talk signaling to ease design of half-duplex systems, automatic Voice/Silence Detection (VAD), adaptive comfort noise insertion (CNI), DTMF and Call Progress Tone detection/regeneration. With a 16-bit ADC and 12-bit DAC built-in, the AMBE-4020 simplifies additional hardware requirements. It comes in a 80-pin LQFP or 121 MAP BGA package.
