Extending Philips’ LivingShapes product line, the product presents itself to the user as a 75 x 75 cm reflecting panel which integrates a matrix of eight by eight Lumiblade OLEDs along with infrared sensors. When powered, the OLEDs appear as a luminous area of 42 x 44 centimetres that emits a soft, warm-white light. As soon as the infrared sensors detect a person in front of the mirror, some of the OLEDs are turned off. Thus, the mirror image of this person appears in a frame of light.
In addition it is possible to set up multiple pre-programmed lighting scenarios – for instance constant activation of the entire OLED area, of the light frame or single vertical columns. With all OLEDs in on-state, the luminaire emits 400 lumen.
The Philips Lumiblade OLEDs used measure 5 x 5,5 cm each – they are identical with other OLEDs used in the LivingShapes product series. In order to enable designers and interior decorators to arrange them according to their design ideas, they are implemented as a plug-and-play system. Thus, larger areas of several square meters can be arranged easily.
The interactive mirror has been developed to provide a highlight o sales rooms, hotel environments or foyers.
The interactive mirror has been demonstrated for the first time during the Light + Building trade fair in April in Frankfurt (Germany); now it is available for commercial sales.
