Multilayer chip beads offer highest rated current in the industry

Combining high rated current (12A) and compact size (2.5 x 2.0 x 0.85 mm3), TDK’s new MPZ2520SPH Series multilayer chip beads meet the increased demands of power supply lines in challenging automotive environments.

The task of such high-performance chip beads is to ensure EMC compliance in automotive applications. The most important application areas are powertrains, infotainment / telematics and the power supply of various ECUs.

Currently, supporting large currents requires either much larger chip beads with dimensions of at least 3.2 x 2.5 mm2 (L x W) or the parallel connection of several such components with lower rated currents. The use of a single MPZ2520SPH series chip bead is a space-saving alternative for this. In addition, the use of a single product helps to stabilise the current. TDK’s design and the use of optimal materials allow the highest rated current in the industry to be achieved in a compact form factor. The new chip-beads comply with AEC-Q200 Rev D.

In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for chip beads with high current capability for use in applications such as powertrain systems for electric vehicles. The supplier sees a similar need in industrial and consumer electronics.
