New Arduino challenge for assistive technology

Design for Cause will challenge element14 community members to create a project that will make daily tasks easier for individuals living with difficulties. Entrants will be encouraged to post their code and methods as Open-Source to help others to build similar designs.

Three unique challenge profiles have been created for entrants, for example as an individual with vision impairment, arthritis or loss of muscle function. Participants can choose a project for the given template, or create their own profile for someone they know.

The Design for a Cause entry phase runs from May 23 to June 13. On June 22, up to 20 challengers will be chosen to build their projects using the Arduino MKR1000. Those challengers will have 11 weeks to build their projects. Winners will then be chosen by a panel of judges from Arduino and the element14 community.

The first prize is $900 to the winner’s favourite charity, a FLUKE 279 FC/IFLEX Digital Multimeter and a Tinkerkit Braccio Robotic Arm DIY Kit. The Runner up will receive $500 to their favourite charity, a Tenma 72-8474 Oscilloscope and Microduino Quadcopter w/Joypad.
