release of its Adaptive Platform, Release 18-03. The new release integrates several new functions into the open standardized system architecture. New features include functions for software configuration management, security and persistence functions as well as communication-based configuration options.

“The specifications of the new release of the Autosar Adaptive Platform 18-03 add important functions. The new standard continues with what Autosar Classic has previously started to ensure safety,” says Thomas Scharnhorst, Autosar spokesman. “With the publication of specifications and an exemplary implementation for its partners, the publication is an important step towards the full set of specifications scheduled by autumn 2018”.

One of the biggest achievements of release 18-03 of the Autosar Adaptive platform is the Update and Configuration Management (UCM), with which cars can be updated via satellite and therefore no cable connection is required for the update. This function includes package management and corresponding installation routines.

Release 18-03 also includes a security enhancement. The new security feature follows the “Support of Trusted Platform” concept and thus offers protection against security-relevant “attacks” and the protection of individual applications against each other (so-called “freedom from interference”, which is also relevant in the context of the security of add-on software packages installed later). The range of functions protects the vehicle from software problems caused by incomplete or faulty installation processes by providing a fallback path.

In addition, the new release 18-03 of the Autosar Adaptive Platform contains a data persistence concept: While the PSE51 interface does not provide a file system, the Adaptive Platform offers a solution for this. It includes secure data storage and permanent data encryption.

In addition, Release 18-03 of the Adaptive Platform not only enables service-oriented communication, but also signal-based communication. This opens up an additional communication path with classic control units.
