New cooling solutions for congatec 100 Watt edge servers
The matched cooling solutions are required for the 100 Watt edge server ecosystem, as overheating can lead to aging and system failure.
congatec cooling solutions for these devices come in three variants, which have all been based on the COM Express heatspreader specification standardized by the PICMG – heatspreader with heatpipe adapter; heatspreader with integrated heatpipe; and an active cooling solution.
Heatpipe adapter for COM Express heatspreader
The conga-B7E3/HPA heatpipe adapter has been designed to absorb waste heat from the heatspreader through four heatpipes and direct it towards other passive heat sinks. This technique allows the development of powerful passively cooled systems for up to 100 Watt.
COM Express heatspreader with integrated heatpipe
The conga-B7E3/HSP-HP solution with integrated heatpipe has been developed primarily for particularly flat embedded systems where a standard height COM Express heatspreader must be coupled to the housing. In this design, the integrated heatpipe distributes the waste heat from the processor evenly over the entire heatspreader so that no hotspots are created.
Active cooling system for rugged 24/7 operation
congatec’s fan-based cooling system conga-B7E3/CSA-HP is designed for 24/7 operation in harsh industrial environments. The fans are mounted extra securely and fixed to reduce wear and tear. The bearings are equipped with a special seal and additional cover to provide maximum protection for mechanics and lubricant. With a high-performance synthetic oil as lubricant, the fan has an MTBF of several decades in the industrial temperature range from -45 to +85°C and with industrial-grade shock and vibration resistance.
