New Samsung VR headset offers ‘ultimate’ mixed-reality experience
Announced in partnership with Microsoft (Redmond, WA), the Samsung HMD Odyssey headset features dual 3.5-inch AMOLED high-resolution displays, a 110-degree field of view, built-in AKG headphones, and built-in six degrees of freedom (DOF) inside-out position tracking. The headset is offered as being quick and easy to set and designed to give users a “premium” virtual reality experience.
“The Samsung HMD Odyssey is a high-performing headset designed to provide the most immersive Windows Mixed Reality experience.” says YG Choi, Senior Vice President of PC Business Team, Samsung Electronics. “With the widest field of view, built-in spatial sound, and easy setup, the Samsung HMD Odyssey transports consumers to incredible virtual reality experiences.”
Unlike typical head-mounted displays, the headset requires no extra motion sensors to be installed. Inside-out position tracking means users are not restricted to a limited space during their virtual reality experience.
In addition to the integrated AKG headphones, the headset features array mics for voice commands, and two motion controllers. The Samsung HMD Odyssey is available for pre-order now, and will be available later this year in the US, China, Korea, Brazil and Hong Kong.
