
Newport Wafer Fab seeks funds for capacity expansion
The company was formed in 2017 after having been sold-off by Infineon and with a history of making power semiconductors as part of International Rectifier (see Infineon seeks buyer for Welsh wafer fab).
The fab runs wafers of 200mm diameter and currently has a manufacturing capacity of 32,000 wafer starts per month of process of 180nm and above. There is an expansion capability to take this to 44,000 wafers per month, according to the company’s website.
The company is talking to private equity and venture capital funds and may take two to three years to implement the expansion, according to reports.
