Snøhvit in the Barents Sea is the largest ever industrial project in North Norway and is now entering part two of its multi-phase development plan. The €500m project will provide feedstock for the onshore LNG (liquified natural gas) plant at Melkøya in Hammerfest. This will need a total of 42 kilometers of static infield and interfield umbilical cables to control the subsea production systems that operate at a depth of 250m.
The static subsea cabling will link to the existing Snøhvit field infrastructure which used Nexans’ umbilicals, including a 145km cable that is still the longest umbilical in the world. The electrical and fibre optic elements will be manufactured at the Nexans Norway facility in Rognan, North Norway with 250 employees and over 50 local subcontractors and vendors. The complete umbilical system will be developed, manufactured and tested at Nexans Norway facility in Halden, Norway and deliverd by the first quarter of 2020.

The group has recently branched out into provding 350kW electric car fast charging systems as well as cabling.
