Nexperia spins out its semiconductor equipment business
Fresh from its acquisition of the Newport Wafer fab, Nexperia has spun out its chip assembly and test equipment business
ITEC remains part of the Nexperia group, which is owned by Wingtec in China, and the move will allow ITEC to address the third-party market in time to serve the current semiconductor boom. The move will also simplify a potential sale at a time when the smeiconductor boom drives up the valuation. This could help pay for the investment in fabs in Europe.
ITEC was founded in 1992 as part of Philips providing semiconductor, RFID and miniLED manufacturing equipment and systems and stayed with Nexperia as the main manufacturing business after the split from NXP with its fab-lite model. The company still has its headquarters in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, but has a large supply chain and customer support office in Hongkong, China, to supply the assembly plants across Asia as well as the R&D for vision systems.

ITEC offers assembly equipment for die bond and chip sort capable to process up to 20 die per second, producing 1.5 million chips per system per day with the ADAT system. The Parset test platform enables the electrical parameter testing of small signal and power MOS devices at a rate up to 92,000 chips per hour. This is key for the kids of products Nexperia produces with small logic and power devices produced in billions a year.
ITEC also has smart vision inspection systems for semiconductor front-end and back-end manufacturing using deep learning AI technologies and a complete equipment control software suite, combining scheduling, optimization, traceability and analysis functions using ‘Big Data’ analytics and machine learning for Industry 4.0 production for mass volume semiconductor manufacturing.
