Next-gen Arm processor delivers faster AI on smartphones
The Arm Cortex-A77 CPU is built on the Cortex-A76 design template and offers 20 percent increased single-thread performance over its predecessor. The new design is intended to fill the processing role in mobile devices for the increasing number of augmented reality (AR) and advanced machine learning (ML) applications.
In comparison to the Cortex-A76 design, Cortex-A77 offers over 20 percent more integer performance, better than 35 percent more FP performance and a greater than 15 percent improvement in memory bandwidth. Cortex-A77 will also continue the Cortex-A76s trait of energy efficiency and provide longer battery life, even with the higher performance.
The performance of Cortex-A77 provides the compute power for secure ML at the edge, with DynamIQ technology accelerating ML performance through Arm’s Project Trillium platform. ML use cases on mobile devices are becoming more complex. A CPU that supports the increasing compute demand is vital. These use include AI Cameras, Visual Scene Detection, 3D Scanning, Biometric user ID, Voice Recognition, ML in gaming and ML in AR.
