Next generation software ties functionality with safety

The company use the automotive area as a backdrop to demonstrate how its technologies meet the needs of that demanding market. The booth showed a mix of interactive demonstrations and technologies for embedded HMI designs and premiered CGI Studio applications.

The company chose automotive applications as a topic as the sector tends to have different requirements to other areas, and safety is a necessity. What were once clearly defined spaces, such as driving and infotainment technologies, are becoming more integrated and solutions have to be found that accommodate both areas. Hypervisors help to keep safety-critical applications distinct from non-safety critical systems. Socialtext Embedded Software Austria and Mentor used a hypervisor in the multiscreen “Cecil” demonstration, which also showcased SESA’s CGI Studio HMI tool and Mentor’s software to create the visual effects.

SESA also showed an Android demo to demonstrate how CGI Studio is capable of supporting mobile devices in vehicles. The CGI Studio Android demo displayed how the software coped with touch interaction and rotation changes.

The third demonstration on SESA’s booth was a safety-critical cluster design, which was also developed with Mentor’s assistance. The demo showed how the separation between an advanced automotive cluster HMI application, implemented using CGI Studio, and safety-critical digitally displayed warning indicators could be achieved – addressing the challenge of mixing safety-critical and non-critical information on a single instrument cluster display, while meeting requirements for automotive certification such as ISO 26262, up to ASIL B.
