Next-Generation Wi-Fi calling supports policy decisions and non-SIM devices
The key benefits Wi-Fi calling include: coverage for voice and text services wherever Wi-Fi is available, reduced churn due to improved indoor coverage including in the homes of people, improved customer acquisition — mobile voice replacing landlines, reduced infrastructure cost — fewer base stations for same voice coverage, and reduced roaming cost — attractive for subscribers.
Mobile operators that have already deployed an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) with Voice-Over-LTE (VoLTE) support can rapidly enable next-generation Wi-Fi calling by adding the Aptilo Wi-Fi Calling application and a gateway (ePDG) to connect the Wi-Fi Calling service with IMS.
The company’s Wi-Fi calling application goes beyond 3GPP standards with innovative features, such as intelligent policy decisions based on input from multiple sources and support for non-SIM devices. These features make Wi-Fi calling work in real-world deployments.
“App-based Wi-Fi calling has been around for some time. However, next-generation Wi-Fi calling with native support in the devices and seamless call transfer between LTE and Wi-Fi is a game-changer for the telecom industry. Aptilo’s next-generation Wi-Fi Calling delivers advanced functionalities that carriers need to compete,” said Jonas Lagerquist, Director Business Development, Aptilo Networks. “This type of extended functionality is required in real-world deployments.”
