NOR Flash memory family achieves ASIL-D certification
The SEMPER NOR flash memory from Infineon Technologies has been certified to the ASIL-D functional safety level.
Automotive applications use external NOR flash memories in safety-critical applications such as ADAS for storing critical code, data, and graphics that must be read at system power-up or during operation. The failure of the NOR flash memory can lead to expensive recalls, as happened with Tesla.
The detailed analysis of product safety documentation under the ISO 26262:2018 standard by SGS-TÜV has enabled the ASIL-D certification across the full range of SEMPER NOR devices, which were originally launched back in 2018 using a mirrorbit structure (above).
The SEMPER NOR flash range includes QSPI, HYPERBUS, and JEDEC xSPI octal interfaces; 256-megabit to 2-gigabit densities; and BGA, WSON, and SOIC packages. These products are qualified to AEC-Q100 grade 1 standard and are widely deployed today in automotive applications including ADAS, zone control, gateway, and digital cockpit.
Functional safety documentation including FMEDA, safety manual, safety case, DFA analysis, and pin FMEA is available upon request on the Functional Safety myICP page.
For functional safety. the SEMPER devices support multiple partitions each configurable to provide up to 25 years of data retention and 1+ million cycles endurance with SafeBoot and error checking to ensure safe and reliable operation.
The read bandwidth of up to 400 MB/s enables instant-on applications with XIP (eXecute in Place), for direct program execution from long-term storage instead of code shadowing to RAM.
“Automotive electronics require the highest levels of functional safety and reliability, and the ASIL-D certification of our SEMPER NOR Flash devices demonstrates our commitment to providing the best memory products for the automotive industry,” said Rainer Hoehler, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Memory Solutions, Infineon.
To streamline the integration of functional safety features into customer systems, Infineon offers the Memory Solutions Hub web portal and the “SEMPER SDK Safe” software development package.
ASIL-D certified SEMPER products, including the S25HS/HL-T QSPI family, S26HS/HL-T HYPERBUS family, and S28HS/HL-T JEDEC xSPI octal family, are available today from Infineon and its authorized distributors.
For high-reliability applications, the company also offers a wide range of radiation-tolerant and radiation-hardened memory products.
