NVIDIA backs major compute push in new Microsoft–Anthropic deal
A major compute push is underway as Microsoft, Anthropic and NVIDIA sign new strategic agreements to scale Claude AI and strengthen hyperscale infrastructure. The deal centers on expanding compute capacity through Azure and NVIDIA systems, accelerating model deployment and enterprise adoption.
This move highlights the scale and pace of investment in AI infrastructure and signals new competitive opportunities in cloud compute and high-performance AI silicon.
Anthropic scales Claude on Azure with NVIDIA power
Anthropic will scale its Claude AI model family on Microsoft Azure using NVIDIA-based infrastructure, opening Claude access to a wider enterprise customer base. As part of the agreement, Anthropic has committed to purchase $30 billion worth of Azure compute capacity, with an option to contract compute up to 1 gigawatt.
Microsoft’s Azure AI Foundry is also gaining deeper Claude integration. Customers will be able to run frontier-class Claude models — including Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Opus 4.1 and Claude Haiku 4.5 — directly from the platform. According to the companies, Claude becomes the only frontier-level LLM available across all three major cloud services.
Microsoft says it will maintain Claude access throughout its Copilot ecosystem, from GitHub Copilot to Copilot Studio, widening its generative AI choices beyond in-house models.
NVIDIA partnership targets next-gen AI optimization
For the first time, NVIDIA and Anthropic are entering a deep engineering partnership aimed at improving model performance, energy efficiency and total cost of ownership. Joint work will focus on tuning NVIDIA architectures to Anthropic workloads while optimizing future Claude models to run more efficiently on upcoming chips.
Initial compute deployment will utilize NVIDIA Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems, with scalability designed around the full 1-gigawatt capacity commitment.
Multi-billion funding follows
Backing the collaboration, NVIDIA and Microsoft will invest up to $10 billion and $5 billion respectively in Anthropic, underscoring the competitive pressure surrounding AI training capacity and model deployment.
With power-hungry AI systems accelerating, this partnership stakes a claim in the next wave of hyperscale compute — and positions Claude firmly inside the enterprise AI race.
