Nvidia to launch cryptocurrency mining graphics cards
One such card is listed on the site of computer maker Asus (Taipei, Taiwan). Called the ASUS Mining P106, it is described as being “designed for coin mining” and “delivering maximum hash-rate production at minimum cost.”
The Mining P106 is based on the Nvidia RX 470 graphics processing unit (GPU). Such video gaming GPUs are often used in cryptocurrency mining applications, however dedicated mining cards can dispense with video ports and connectors.
Recently, the skyrocketing price of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum have resulted in renewed interest in digital mining and increased demand for processors suited for the job. As a result, GPU makers like Nvidia and AMD have seen their stock prices boom as well.
The Mining P106 card is offered as able to deliver “24/7 coin mining.” In addition, it claims an enhanced megahash rate up to 36% over non-dedicated cards.
According to Coindesk, the Mining P106 will only be available in China and Eastern Europe, beginning in July.
