
The NTAG I²C plus, combines passive NFC with I2C interfaces. This chip can be used for “tap-to-connect” communications between smart devices. The tag delivers higher data transfer performance than previous devices while adding security features such as password protection and an ECC based originality signature for protection against cloning.
The PN7462 is family of NFC chips with a Cortex-M0 processor core running at up to 20MHx included on-chip together with support for USB, a contact and contactless interfaces. The PN7462 family is specifically designed for applications like corporate access, hospitality or home banking and comes with an NFC Forum and EMVCo 2.5 compliant software library.
NTAG I²C plus is released and fully available through all major NXP distributors. The PN7462 family is expected to be available for mass production at April 2016.
NXP said it does not reveal the manufacturer or details of the manufacturing process for these chips but that it has both in-house and foundry sources for the chips. It would seem reasonable that they would be made in a mixed-signal CMOS at 90nm or 65nm minimum geometry.
