The professorship is dedicated to researching technology-related security issues from a social science perspective as well as the associated political strategies, regulatory and compliance aspects: How can critical infrastructure, networks, hardware and data be protected against attacks and unauthorized use?

The new faculty member will pursue these questions from the perspective of international relations, conflict or security research and will teach in particular in the Master of International Affairs course.

„We want to teach students international relations and security policy with a strong future orientation. Cyber security is a global task. Future executives will be trained to meet the challenges of the digital age at Hertie School,”explains CISP Director Wolfgang Ischinger who is also known as the organizer of the highly regarded annual Munich world security summit.

Rüdiger Stroh, Executive Vice President of NXP, explains the company’s commitment:”With the increasing networking on the Internet of Things, cyber security and the protection of technical and social systems are becoming a global challenge. As an industrial company, we develop effective concepts to protect our future information systems and networks. But there is also a need for research and scientific progress on the many governance issues in this area. We want to sustainably support them.”
