Crocus has developed its tunnelling magnetoresistance (TMR) into sensors for magnetic fields, motion and current as well as the basis for MRAM. NXP will use the technology for sensing in applications such as power steering and electronic throttle control.
The TMR technology provides superior sensitivity and performance and reduced power consumption compared with more traditional technologies such as Hall effect sensors, Crocus said. CMOS-compatibility also makes the technology easy to integrate.
“This licensing agreement with NXP provides the means to enter the automotive market with a strong partner to enable next-generation sensory-solutions,” said Zack Deiri, chief sales and marketing officer for Crocus, in a statement.
