OKdo launches low cost, NXP-powered SBC
The launch of the E1 is a first for the Electrocomponents-owned company, as it moves towards its goal of providing accessible software, hardware, services and solutions for the IoT.
The board was developed in collaboration with NXP and is supported by NXP’s software development ecosystem, including the MCUXpresso IDE. It also features support for other IDEs, as well as a range of middleware and open-source operating systems.
OKdo designed the E1 to be able to operate alongside other open-source projects, such as Arduino and Digilent Pmod. It has a passive companion PCB that allows the addition of Arduino-compatible shields to extend functionality. The Arduino shields are also available from OKdo.
As well as a basis for stand-alone IoT projects, the E1 can be used to evaluate NXP’s LPC55S69 MCU, a low-power MCU based on the 32-bit Arm Cortex-M33 core that can run at up to 150MHz. The MCU has been developed for IoT applications and offers advanced features, including: a cryptographic co-processor; DSP hardware accelerator; security module for real-time encryption/decryption of information stored in the on-chip Flash; on-chip ROM; secure boot support; and a range of digital and analogue peripherals. The MCU is Arm TrustZone-M enabled with an AES-256 encryption/decryption engine, a physical unclonable function (PUF) for key generation and a true random number generator (TRNG).
