Leti has more than 150 engineers, technicians, PhD students and post-doc researchers working on MEMS projects across a broad range of applications. Its MEMS research domains include actuators, sensors, RF MEMS and passives, packaging and associated design kits, and characterization and reliability testing.
"We see true synergies between our MEMS division and Leti’s world-leading operations in this field," said Yoshio Sekiguchi, senior general manager at Omron’s micro devices division.
Omron is not new to MEMS collaboration in Europe. It has partnered extensively with STMicroelectronics NV (Geneva, Switzerland) in recent years. ST made use of base sensor technology from Omron inside its MEMS microphones in 2009. The digital microphones were designed to integrate Omron’s micro-machined sensor with an electronic circuit from ST in single component that would sell at less than one dollar in large volumes.
