Using proprietary technology from DuPont Teijin Films, the low bloom Melinex TCH index matched polyester films provide transparent conductor film manufacturers and users a clean, clear surface with superior optical properties.

Standard polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polyester films can suffer from a blooming effect if the film experiences elevated temperatures, which effectively increase a film’s haze to unacceptable levels for the most optically sensitive applications such as handheld displays. Also, the application of a hardcoat layer to improve the film’s durability can create a refractive index mismatch, which is then seen in the form of iridescence – or a rainbow effect. To achieve optical clarity, the Melinex TCH series polyester films combine low bloom properties with an index matched coating to one or both sides of the film. The films are available with and without heat stabilization, and they have been demonstrated for use in several touch sensor applications that use a hardcoat layer with indium tin oxide (ITO) and ITO replacement transparent conductors. The result provides device makers thin, lightweight and durable alternatives to traditional ITO coated glass substrates.
