In 2019 the optoelectronics, sensors, actuator and discretes market in aggregate will rise by 6 percent to $87.1 billion, the market researcher predicts. The following year is expected to be an even slower year with contraction in the market for discrete components.

Broken down into sectors optoelectronics sales are expected to grow 7.0 percent, sensors/actuators to rise 5.0 percent, and discretes grow 4.1 percent. This comes after the market hit a record high in 2018 with growth of 9 percent to $82.4 billion – one percent higher than IC Insights predicted the market would be one year ago.

In 2019 O-S-D products accounted for 16 percent of the world’s $504.1 billion in total semiconductor sales in 2018 – about $80.7 billion. The rest of the revenue – $423.4 billion – came from integrated circuits.

All three O-S-D market segments are once again forecast to reach record-high revenues in 2019 with a “soft landing” expected to occur in most product categories during the slowdown in 2020.
