Osram addresses trend towards slim headlamp designs
With the Oslon Boost HM, developers at Osram have succeeded in achieving an outstanding brightness of 415 lm at 1.5 A with a very small chip area of just 0.5 mm2. The LED package is also particularly compact at 1.9 mm x 1.5 mm x 0.73 mm, making it possible to produce a Frons headlight solution that is only a finger’s width away without compromising on light output. The luminance of 255 cd/mm2 at 1.5 A is an absolute best value in this LED performance class.
In addition to use in headlights, the Oslon Boost HM can also be used – also in combination with other LEDs – for example as an auxiliary high beam. Thanks to its outstanding luminance, the LED is also suitable for use in MEMS-based adaptive front lighting systems. Osram Opto Semiconductors was able to draw on its many years of expertise in package design for the new product. The robust ceramic housing of the Oslon Boost HM enables simple thermal management within the component thanks to an electrically insulated pad. Thanks to the special internal design structures, heat can be easily dissipated from the LED. Furthermore, the LED has a low thermal resistance of only 4.62 K/W.
