The company achieves the high luminous efficiency (17 percent more efficient than chip scale packages, it claims) with a product uniquely composed of a LED chip and phosphor, with no packaging to wrap the chip nor frames and gold wires. Seoul Semiconductor has supplied WICOP to both IT and automobile manufacturers since 2012 but its first models of WICOP lighting products in 2015.
The company has now started to mass produce the WICOP Y22 LED with a 210lm/W luminous efficiency, aiming its products at the TV backlighting market as well as other lighting applications.
