Panasonic adds relays for high inrush currents and PiP reflow processing
Panasonic Industry has released two extensions for its popular LQ series of electromechanical power relays, which is a widely-demanded, compact and high-performance relay designed for a vast field of applications.
With a small and slim profile of 10- (W) x 20- (L) x 16-mm (H), these power relays offer flexibility in mounting orientations. The current LQ Series of relays boasts a high switching capacity of up to 10 A and is available in six nominal coil voltages ranging from 5 V to 24 V, featuring 1 Form A or 1 form C contact arrangements.
Key features of the power relays include a sealed construction for enhanced environmental protection, along with a high surge withstand voltage and dielectric strength, making them ideal for high voltage applications in ambient temperature usage, up to 85°C and 105°C. The two additions announced are an improved high inrush current and reinforced insulation type relay.
The new ALQ6 is designed to meet the escalating demand for high inrush current capability in automated systems, particularly in motor and LED lighting control applications. The ALQ6 can efficiently handle an inrush current of up to 40 A for 100 μs, making it an ideal for capacitive loads. With a contact rating of 10-A 125-VAC, 8-A 250-VAC, and 5-A 30-VDC in an 1 Form A arrangement, the ALQ6 not only delivers enhanced performance but also meets various safety standards with its increased creepage and clearance distance between contact and coil, measuring a minimum of 5.5 mm — and complies with IEC/EN60335-1.
Next to the new specific inrush type, Panasonic Industry Europe has announced the LQ series being now available in a reflow-processable variant, catering to the evolving demands of modern manufacturing processes. The LQ relay, in both 1 Form A and 1 Form C types, complies with IEC/EN60335-1 standards for household applications, ensuring reliability and safety.
Operating seamlessly up to 105°C, the LQ Series offers a high dielectric strength voltage of 4,000 Vrms between contact and coil. The new PiP reflow type enhances the series, making it universally applicable and aligning it with the efficiency and precision required in contemporary production techniques.
Markus Bichler, Head of Relay Electronics at Panasonic Industry Europe, comments, “The LQ is renowned as the universal talent among power relays. Being able to offer it now as a PiP reflow type allows us to serve those customers who have already upgraded their manufacturing processes in this regard.” For the ALQ6 he continues, “Being able to offer this all-rounder type of relay now also makes it the ideal choice for applications prone to high inrush currents, for instance, in the field of Industrial and Building Automation.”
