
Panasonic to start PV production for Tesla in the US

The investment by Tesla will see production start in summer 2017 at the SolarCity plant in Buffalo, New York and ramp up to 1GW by 2019. The plant was built by Silevo with $750m of grants from the state and local goverment, and acquired by SolarCity in June 2014. The initial production will be used for traditional PV rooftop systems, followed by Tesla’sPV roof tiles.
Panasonic will also work with Tesla on developing PV next generation technology at SolarCity’s facility in Fremont, California. As part of the agreement, Panasonic will cover required capital costs in Buffalo and Tesla is making a long-term purchase commitment from Panasonic.
