Schaffner has launched a high power passive harmonic filter range for demanding drive applications.

The ecosine max passive harmonic filter series with the FN3470/71, FN3480/81, FN3472/73 and FN3482/83 has versions for 400 VAC and 480 VAC, and 50 Hz and 60 Hz networks.

They are a key passive power quality product for higher power 250KW to 500KW drive designs. The three-chokes versions FN3470/80/72/82 are designed to achieve <5% harmonic distortion current (THDi) at rated power even when using drives without DC-link choke. The more economical two-chokes versions FN3471/81/73/83 are designed to achieve <5% total THDi at rated power if used with drives including at least 4% DC-link choke. They can also be applied to drives without DC-link choke reaching a THDi of 8%.

The ecosine max passive harmonic filter complies with the requirements of IEEE-519 and other international power quality standards and protects the electrical infrastructure. The filters also help to extend the service life cycle of the electrical equipment in the end system by reducing power peaks and reduce energy costs

The ecosine max filter series is designed to be the most compact open panel solutions and can be integrated in standard or customised electrical cabinets. All the passive harmoic filters are CE-marked, UL listed and RoHS compliant and are supported by the SchaffnerPQS3 power quality simulator.

All the versions are offered either with a circuit breaker switch protecting the trap capacitor bank or with a trap disconnect jumper to allow any third-party circuit breaker switch to be installed. This protection ensures the operational safety of the device even under all circumstances.
