The spectral sensitivity of the D5140 has been optimized for visible light and allows precise heart rate measurements using red or green light. The component can also be used as an ambient light sensor. A pre-molded package is soldered to the bottom of the package, cutting out the need for side legs and making the Topled D5140 1.4mm shorter than Osram’s previous offering. The electrical and optical properties of the new photodiode are identical to Osram’s SFH 2440, with a short switching time of 90 nanoseconds, a spectral sensitivity optimized around 620nm in the visible range.
