Picocom executives prepare next radio startup
RANsemi Ltd. was founded in November 2023 by serial entrepreneur Peter Claydon and colleagues who are serving or have served with him at Picocom Technology Ltd. (Bristol, England).
Picocom is a 5G open RAN baseband semiconductor and software specialist that is now wholly-owned by Chinese company Picocom (Hangzhou) Co. Ltd. (Hangzhou, China). Picocom Technology Ltd. was founded in August 2018 by Claydon and William Robbins.
It is expected that RANsemi will also provide semiconductor chips for radio access networks (RANs) although some sort of potential step-function in performance or functionality might also be expected to justify the existence of a startup. One possibility is the application of AI to optimize RAN performance and efficiency.
Claydon is the largest shareholder in RANsemi although he remains president of Picocom, according to his Linkedin entry.
The four shareholders of RANsemi are Peter Claydon, Douglas Pulley, Martin Lysejko and Robbins.
Pulley was chief solutions architect at Picocom until he stepped down in September 2023, according to his Linkedin page. Pulley describes himself as RANsemi’s full-time CTO.
Robbins was vice-president of engineering at Picocom until he stepped down in August 2023 becoming a non-executive director of the company, according to his Linkedin entry.
Lysejko was chief systems architect at Picocom as recently as November 2023 but it is not clear whether he is still with Picocom or has left the company.
RANsemi has recruited Oliver Davies as vice president of marketing. Davies worked as vice president of marketing at Picocom until August 2024. In a posting on LinkedIn Davies said: “What we do is in the name.”
