“PicoScope 6 can already decode a wide variety of serial protocols such as I²C, SPI and UART, as well as automotive standards such as CAN, LIN and FlexRay,” said Trevor Smith, Business Development Manager, Test & Measurement, at Pico Technology. “Now it can also decode CAN FD, which is the latest and fastest version of CAN Bus used in automotive and industrial automation applications.”

Serial decoding is an essential component of the PicoScope software and allows the user to see the the decoded data on the same timebase as the analogue waveforms. Bit fields within frames are colour-code for easier identification, with errors highlighted in red. Click on a decoded frame, and PicoScope highlights the same data in a table below the waveform. The user can search and sort the decoded data, export it in text format, and display optional measurements such as peak voltage, packet duration and start and stop times.

PicoScope 6 runs on any Windows PC (Windows 7, 8 and 10, 32-bit or 64-bit), enabling sharing of waveforms – just email a .psdata file or a screen shot. You can also export waveform data in a range of binary and text formats. PicoScope 6.12.7 is available for download now, free of charge, from
