
‘Pitch-splitting’ chip startup Alix Labs raises more money
Atomic etch startup Alix Labs AB (Lund, Sweden) has raised SEK 40 million (about US$3.6 million) to further develop its ‘pitch-splitting’ chip manufacturing technology.
The announcement comes two years after the company raised SEK9 million (about US$1 million) in a seed round of funding (see Swedish startup rises capital for IC pitch-reduction process). The company was founded in 2019.
Alix claims its technology is able to split nanostructures in half using a single atomic-level etching step. The process makes use of inclined surfaces – fabricated by dry etching or epitaxial growth – to provide masking for the ALE process that can thereby produce small structures in a precise and efficient way. The method works with both immersion lithography and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography, the company states.
Investors in the latest round include Navigare Ventures, Industrifonden, and FORWARD.one.
“This investment marks a significant milestone as we work towards our goal: to have our meticulously developed process adopted by circuit manufacturers in their most advanced production by 2025,” said Jonas Sundqvist, CEO of AlixLabs, in a statement.
Alix Labs said its innovation coincides with the allocation of resources to semiconductor companies under the EU Chips Act.
