Plextek to announce solutions for both E-band and V-band at IET conference
Plextek’s first presentation will focus on low-cost, 60 GHz driver amplifiers operating from a single +3 V supply, with the other presentation looking at how an E-band voltage variable attenuator can be realised on the same low cost 0.13µm PHEMT process.
The event takes place on September 11th at Queens University Belfast and demonstrates Plextek’s continuing involvement at the forefront of this technology.
Plextek’s Director of RF Integration, Liam Devlin, said; “These new solutions designed by Plextek will be integrated into point-to-point microwave radios and other high speed data links. The increase in demand for higher data rate comes from applications such as gaming and video, especially over the internet, resulting in a need for growth in microwave links – and cost is starting to becoming a real issue.”
The continuing increase in demand for high data rate wireless connections has driven interest in low cost, high performance technology operating at V-band (60 GHz) and E-band (71 to 76 GHz and 81 to 86 GHz). E-band spectrum at 71 to 76 GHz and 81 to 86 GHz offers worldwide availability and wide bandwidths under a light license system. This makes it very attractive for very high data rate applications such as cellular back-haul. Component availability is currently relatively limited and cost relatively high but this is starting to change.
