Lion’s switched-capacitor ICs have been used for wireless charging in Xiaomi smartphones and for wired charging in numerous smartphones.

Switched-capacitor charging offers higher efficiency and faster charging at cooler temperatures than conventional inductor-based charger ICs. Helix Semiconductor, Murata and Texas Instruments have been using switched capacitor technology for DC-DC and AC-DC converters, while another key smartphone supplier, Dialog Semiconductor has also been looking at the technology to eliminate the need for a transformer.

Lion Semiconductor is backed by Walden Riverwood, Atlantic Bridge Ventures and SK Hynix.
