PMIC startup hits 50 million smartphone landmark
The company has achieved this level of penetration two years after the start of production shipments and eight years after the founding of the company in 2012.
Lion’s switched-capacitor ICs have been used for wireless charging in Xiaomi smartphones and for wired charging in numerous smartphones.
Switched-capacitor charging offers higher efficiency and faster charging at cooler temperatures than conventional inductor-based charger ICs. Helix Semiconductor, Murata and Texas Instruments have been using switched capacitor technology for DC-DC and AC-DC converters, while another key smartphone supplier, Dialog Semiconductor has also been looking at the technology to eliminate the need for a transformer.
Lion Semiconductor is backed by Walden Riverwood, Atlantic Bridge Ventures and SK Hynix.
