POLYN neuromorphic tire monitoring evaluation kit
POLYN has released the VibroSense Tire Monitoring Evaluation Kit for general availability. The evaluation kit helps automotive, ADAS and tire vendors start the integration and design processes for intelligent tire monitoring systems before product manufacturing
VibroSense-TMS is an innovative neuromorphic chip that processes tire vibration data to detect real-time changes in tire-road friction. This tire monitoring technology extracts crucial information for driving safety from within the tire, using only microwatts of power, which enables the instant transmission of friction change alerts to the vehicle’s ADAS.
VibroSense TMS provides always-on, continuous friction monitoring, enabling vehicles to adapt braking, traction control, and autopilot systems more accurately to all driving conditions and increasing safety.
The Tire Monitoring Evaluation Kit includes a standard TPMS sensor node for data collection and a Neuromorphic Analog Signal Processing (NASP) model for monitoring friction. An SDK facilitates flexible calibration of the model for different tires. It operates with a live tire vibration signal, allowing the neural cores to be tested in real-time under various road conditions.
The Data Acquisition Unit (DAU) is equipped with an Infineon SP-49 sensor SoC and BLE for data transmission to a dedicated tablet (PAD) unit, which provides live visualisation of the peak friction coefficient (PFC) estimation. The PAD GUI displays live PFC monitoring for two tires (e.g., front left and right).
“VibroSense transforms existing TPMS into real-time tire-road friction monitors, enabling next-generation tire intelligence and smooth integration with ADAS braking technology,” said Aleksandr Timofeev, POLYN’s CEO. “The task of transmitting vibration data from tires to the vehicle is challenging due to the high data volume. Our ultra-low-power neuromorphic processing solution solves the problem. VibroSense extracts the PFC values directly in the tire and communicates with the vehicle’s ADAS only if friction changes.”
“The intelligence in the VibroSense Tire Monitoring Solution Evaluation Kit is derived from the real-world collection of PFC labeled data, taken from various cars, tires, and surfaces, covering ten PFC levels of road friction, from 0.1 to 0.9. Different industries’ vendors related to automotive are invited to evaluate it,” added Timofeev.
The POLYN NASP uniquely provides cloudless AI on IoT devices, supporting sustainability. POLYN enables Edge AI computing to be easily deployed across real-world IoT applications such as connected cars, industrial IoT, wearables, and consumer electronics.
