The launch of Porsche Engineering Romania SRL highlights the increasing significance of software for the development of vehicles, Porsche says. “Through our new location in Cluj, Porsche customer development is further sharpening its focus on the car of the future,” said Malte Radmann, Managing Director of Porsche Engineering. “Cluj will help us to push the digitalization of the car forward.”
Romania and its technological centre Cluj-Napoca are said to be one of the most innovative regions for software development in Europe. And not only for software: Years ago, chipmaker Infineon has launched a development centre in this city. A great number of IT enterprises are based in the Cluj-Napoca region, and the city is home to a vibrant start-up community. Porsche Engineering regards this environment as the ideal hotbed for innovative software developments in the automotive sector. The company expects that the number of employees of the Romanian Porsche subsidiary will grow to 25. “To realise digital concepts around the car, we need first-class software engineers,” says Dirk Lappe, Technical Director of Porsche Engineering. “Such as those we find in Cluj.”
With the Romanian offspring, the engineering services provider complements its competencies and their regional distribution. Based in Weissach near Stuttgart (Germany), Bosch Engineering runs subsidiaries in Bietigheim-Bissingen (Germany), Prague, Shanghai and Nardò (Italy). To guarantee globally available development services capabilities, these locations are closely coordinated and interlinked. Though a fully-owned subsidiary of Porsche AG (the carmaker), Porsche engineering offers development and design services including start-of-production management to customers across the automotive industry. In Nardò, Porsche Engineering maintains a test ground for new vehicles.
