Portable security sensor ‘makes any space safe’
Called the Duo, the cellular-based standalone sensor works without requiring Wi-Fi, external power, or hubs. If it detects tampering with a secured space or item, it instantly sends an SMS notification to the user.
The sensor works using light and human infrared motion sensors over a 15 x 15 foot motion range and any visible light, so target applications include any space that is dark and motionless such as safes, storage units, lockers, vehicles, suitcases, and cabinets. The device is powered by a rechargeable battery, and uses a global cellular modem for communication.
The Duo measures 1.48 x 3.66 x 3.26 in. and weighs 4.3 ounces. It comes with two months of data coverage, after which the data plan is $3.99 per month per device.
The Duo is currently available for pre-order through the Duo Indiegogo campaign, with a month remaining in the campaign. The company, which was founded in 2016, says that it plans to begin shipping the devices in October 2018.
